A Celebration of Emotions, Expression, and Empowerment Through Poetry

On Saturday, May 31st, 2025, Pinkishe Foundation brought to life an unforgettable evening of poetic brilliance under its flagship initiative, Project Swara. Hosted on our virtual platform, the session witnessed an inspiring congregation of celebrated women poets, who came together to explore, express, and celebrate the symbolism and significance of the color red through poetry, ghazals, dohas, and lyrical expressions.

This poetic assembly wasn’t just a creative celebration—it was a conscious effort to foster expression, build community, and give voice to women’s experiences through the powerful medium of verse.

The Meaning Behind Red: Love, Energy, Motherhood, and More

Why the Color Red?

Red is a color that breathes life into our world. It is the color of the heart, of blood, of courage. It carries deep emotional, cultural, and symbolic significance in our lives. This session was an artistic attempt to unravel the layers of what red represents:

  • Love, passion, and romantic connection – red as the color of affection and emotional intensity
  • Energy, vitality, and inner fire – symbolizing the drive to dream and act
  • Motherhood, menstruation, and womanhood – red as a mark of fertility and divine creation
  • Courage and resistance – red as a sign of boldness and unwavering strength

Each poem performed during the session reflected one or more of these facets, painting a vibrant picture of red as a metaphor for life itself.

A Poetry Night That Wove Stories Through Shades of Red

The virtual stage was lit with the presence of accomplished and emerging women poets, whose performances spanned across multiple languages and styles. From classic Hindi dohas to soulful ghazals, from modern free verse to lyrical renditions—each poet brought a unique expression of what red meant to them.

Diverse Poetic Forms Enriched the Experience

Audiences were captivated by a rich mix of poetic forms, including:

  • Dohas conveying life’s wisdom in just a few words
  • Ghazals that stirred emotions with rhythm and imagery
  • Free verse poetry that gave bold voice to untold truths
  • Musical poetry and lyrical songs that touched hearts and uplifted souls

The evening flowed seamlessly, with every poem adding a new shade to the canvas of red.

Real Emotions, Real Impact — All in a Virtual Format

Despite being conducted online, the session carried real emotional weight. The live audience responded with emojis, applause reactions, and heartfelt comments that made the event feel truly interactive.

The accessibility of the virtual platform enabled poets, students, art lovers, and menstrual health advocates from across India to attend. Many expressed that it felt less like a digital event and more like a personal, poetic dialogue shared between hearts.

Audience Reflections: What Made This Evening Special?

Feedback poured in from participants and viewers, highlighting how the session:

  • Encouraged introspection and stirred personal reflection
  • Created a space for women’s lived experiences to be voiced freely
  • Normalised conversations around menstruation through art
  • Brought together a community united by empathy and creativity

First-time attendees were especially touched, with several expressing interest in participating in future Project Swara sessions as performers.

Closing Notes: When Words Bleed Red

This poetry evening reminded us that words have power, and poetry can be protest, healing, and celebration — all at once. Red was not just spoken of; it was felt, embraced, and honored in every stanza.

The event proved once again that art can open hearts and start important conversations, especially when those hearts beat in the same rhythm of shared womanhood.
