Through Project Kishori, Pinkishe Foundation and P&G have embarked on an innovative endeavor to address menstrual health and hygiene in Uttar Pradesh. Utilizing a series of 600 nukkad natak (street plays) sessions across Baghpat, Hapur, and Bulandshahr, our aim is to combat the stigma surrounding menstruation and educate women on essential menstrual health practices.
The creative use of nukkad natak has proven highly effective in engaging communities and sparking meaningful discussions. These performances employ compelling storytelling and relatable characters to convey vital information about menstruation, dispel myths, and promote healthy practices in an engaging and impactful manner.
These sessions have transformed public spaces into platforms for education, fostering open dialogue about menstruation. By addressing deep-rooted taboos, we aim to create an environment where women and girls feel empowered to discuss their menstrual health without feeling ashamed or embarrassed. Normalizing these conversations is crucial in enabling women to seek information and resources confidently.
Each nukkad natak session is carefully crafted to emphasize the importance of menstrual hygiene, challenge common misconceptions, and offer practical advice on menstrual health management. Topics covered include the biological processes of menstruation, the significance of using sanitary products, and maintaining cleanliness during periods. These messages are delivered with cultural sensitivity to ensure they resonate with the local audience.
Our collaboration with P&G has played a pivotal role in the success of Project Kishori. Together, we have reached thousands of women and girls, equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to manage their periods confidently and with dignity.
