Pinkishe Foundation, led by Tripti Dwivedi, recently conducted a menstrual hygiene literacy session and pad distribution drive at Government School in Ghodadongari, Betul. This initiative aimed to empower girls in a community where many engage in labor-intensive work.
During the session, it was discovered that girls in the area traditionally used Kota sarees and cotton for menstrual hygiene. Introducing them to reusable cloth pads provided them with newfound comfort and convenience. Despite living in kutcha houses and facing challenges with drying their clothes in sunlight, the girls appreciated the long-lasting comfort that the cloth pads offered.
However, it was observed that the topic of menstruation remained taboo among the girls, despite their willingness to adopt improved menstrual hygiene practices. Additionally, many girls reported experiencing itching, red spots, and discomfort in their genital area, indicating potential hygiene issues that needed addressing. After the session, many girls understood the reasons behind their problems.
As part of our commitment to menstrual health education, sanitary pads were distributed to all participants. This initiative aimed to provide girls with access to essential menstrual products and promote better hygiene practices to alleviate discomfort and prevent health issues.
