Pinkishe Foundation, in partnership with P&G, has launched Project Kishori to revolutionize menstrual health education in Uttar Pradesh. Through 600 nukkad natak (street plays) sessions in Baghpat, Hapur, and Bulandshahr, we aim to break the stigma around menstruation and educate women on vital menstrual health practices.
Nukkad natak has proven to be a highly effective method for engaging communities and initiating important conversations. These street plays use powerful storytelling and relatable characters to provide crucial information about menstruation, debunk myths, and promote healthy practices in an entertaining and impactful way.
These sessions transform public spaces into educational forums, encouraging open dialogue about menstruation. By addressing deeply rooted taboos, we strive to create an environment where women and girls feel comfortable discussing their menstrual health without shame. Normalizing these conversations is essential for women to seek accurate information and resources confidently.
Each nukkad natak performance is thoughtfully designed to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene, dispel common misconceptions, and provide practical advice on managing menstrual health. Topics include the biological processes of menstruation, the importance of using sanitary products, and maintaining cleanliness during periods. Delivered with cultural sensitivity, these messages resonate with the local audience.
The collaboration with P&G has been instrumental in the success of Project Kishori. Together, we have reached thousands of women and girls, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to manage their periods confidently and with dignity.
