Pinkishe Foundation organized a successful menstrual hygiene literacy session and pads distribution drive at Government High School in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The event, led by Mugdha, aimed to educate young girls about menstrual health and break the taboos surrounding menstruation.
During the session, Mugdha engaged with the students, providing essential information about menstrual hygiene management. She discussed the importance of using sanitary products, maintaining cleanliness during periods, and dispelled common myths and misconceptions. The session created a safe space for the girls to share their experiences and ask questions.
One poignant moment came when a student recounted a story from her childhood. Her grandmother had told her that periods happen when girls accidentally touch fishes while visiting the village lake. Another girl shared a similar story, where she was initially told that menstruation occurs because girls accidentally touch lizards. These anecdotes highlighted the pervasive myths and misinformation that still exist around menstruation.
The girls were particularly curious about new menstrual products such as menstrual cups and tampons. Mugdha explained the benefits and proper usage of these products, encouraging the students to consider them as viable alternatives to traditional pads.
In addition to the informative session, Pinkishe Foundation distributed sanitary pads to all the attendees, ensuring that they have access to necessary hygiene products. The event was a step forward in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and empowering young girls with knowledge.
